Fathers
Unfairly treated.
As fathers, we are automatically seen as a secondary carer to our own children.
The Issue
The impact of separation is deeply felt – and for many fathers, it's life-altering.
Across Australia, too many dads are being unfairly cut out of their children’s lives – whether by ex-partners or through court decisions that don’t reflect the importance of a father’s role.
Tragically, an average of 21 fathers take their own lives each week, many driven by the pain of being separated from their children. During divorce proceedings, it’s not uncommon for fathers to go weeks, months – even years – without meaningful contact.
Losing access to their children doesn’t just affect fathers emotionally. It shakes their identity. The fallout can include depression, financial hardship, increased alcohol use, declining health and a loss of self-worth
– not only as a parent, but as a man.
